John Bennett enlisted on the 3rd September 1914 in Wolverhampton. He signed up for the duration of the war for service in the United Kingdom, but soon must have volunteered for Overseas Service.
His medical on the 3rd of September showed that he was 33 years, 10 months old, 5′6″, with a fully expanded chest of 36 inches, and a range of expansion of 2 1/2″.He entered France and Flanders on the 5th March 1915, along with the rest of the Battalion. He returned to the United Kingdom on the 5th April 1917, and was declared on the 26th April 1917 in Litchfield as being no longer physically fit for further was service. (Para 392 (xvi) King’s Regulations). John was finally discharged on 15th May 1917, having served for 2 years 245 days.
