Coseley Soldier dies from wounds

Private Joseph Darby, of 97, Regent Street, Woodsetton, is reported to have died from wounds in France. He was an old boy of Mount Pleasant Schools, Coseley, and was employed at Parkes’ Works, Woodsetton, when he joined up at the age of 18, being attached to the South Staffords.

    My paternal grandmother, Sarah Darby who lived in Woodsetton, lost either 2 or 3 brothers in the first world war. We are not certain that Joseph is one of them. Samuel Darby (South Sraffs. No.19947) and Alfred Darby (Royal Fusiliers No. 66609) were the two of which we seem certain. We have the burial records of Alfred and Samuel. We are just not quite certain that Joseph is also a brother.
