Sidney lived at 11 Hospital Street, Wolverhampton. His father was Albert.
He attested for the South Staffordshires on 6th May 1915. At this time he was 19 years 121 days old. His medical on attestation gave the following information:
Height : 5′ 3 1/2″
Weight : 113 lb
Chest : 32″, 4″ expansion
Description: Fresh complexion, brown hair and blue eyes

On the 1st April 1916 in St Albans he was discharged as being physically unfit for military service, due to poor physique and debility. A medical on this date gave the following:
Weight : 103 lb
Chest : 30 3/4″, 2 3/4″ expansion
Pulse : 120 bpm

Sidney received a pension on his discharge. He later married Dora Hayles on 10th February 1019, and they lived at 11 Queen Street, Quarry Bank. He was re-assessed for his pension on 1st June 1920, by this stage his health had improved:
